HOTEL & RESTAURANT: DECEMBER 2009: NEW HOTEL TO OPEN IN EAST LONDON
Construction of the East London International Convention Centre and the adjacent Premier Hotel Cascades is on track with the 500 million development due for the completion early 2010.
Phase 1 of the 260-room Premier Hotel Cascades will open this month for summer holiday season.
“The development is set to bring not only conference and incentive travel to East London but also significantly upgrade Orient Beach and the Esplanade as a leisure destination,” says Samuel Nassimov, MD of Premier Hotels & Resorts. “East London and the Sunshine Coast in general tend to be somewhat overlooked as a conference and leisure destination and we aim to change that.”
Eastern Cape entrepreneur of the year for 2009, Nassimov says a new low-rise leisure, dining and shopping area will also be developed in front of the hotel facing the beach.
Headquartered in East London, Premier Hotels has grown from its original base of two hotels – the Premier Hotel King David and Premier Hotel Regent – and Mpongo Private Game Reserve into a national group with a range of hotels and conference venues in regional business and travel destinations in the Western Cape, Gauteng and KZN.
To be managed by the Premier Hotels group the ELICC will include a 650 seater auditorium, an exhibition floor (taking up to 110 stands) and a major hall capable of seating 850 ball-room style and 2200 cinema style as well as board rooms, restaurants and kitchens.
